Members can securely exchange patient information with other participating organizations, even when different electronic health record systems are in use.
Members may choose from a menu of connectivity services based on their organizational needs, workflows, and strategic priorities.
Health Information Exchange
The Tiger Institute Health Alliance HIE is the technical foundation for creating a longitudinal community record. It connects health information from participating organizations and makes that information available to authorized users through secure workflows.
When clinical data is requested, information from hospitals, physician practices, labs, post-acute care providers, and other health care organizations can be aggregated into a summary record. Where available, that information can be presented within the user’s EHR to support existing workflows. For organizations or users without EHR access, the HIE may also be accessed through a secure web portal.
Benefits include:
- On-demand access to clinical data from other participating providers
- A more complete longitudinal community record for patients
- Improved referral management and care coordination
- Better communication between care settings and providers
- Improved accuracy and security of patient information
- Reduced duplicate tests, treatments, and manual record requests
- Less staff time spent sending and requesting information
- Stronger partnerships across the medical community
ADT Notifications
Know when your patients receive care.
ADT Notifications alert care teams when important events occur for their patients, such as hospital admissions, discharges, emergency department visits, deaths, and other defined events.
These notifications can help organizations identify care transitions sooner, support follow-up, reduce gaps in care, and improve care management workflows.
Benefits include:
- Timely awareness of admissions, discharges, ED visits, and other events
- Improved care coordination across care settings
- Better support for care management and follow-up workflows
- Flexible delivery options that align with user needs
- Ability to determine which event types users receive

Will Tiger Institute Health Alliance share information with other organizations?
Yes, when appropriate and authorized. While most care occurs regionally, patients may also receive care outside their usual community. Tiger Institute Health Alliance can serve as a gateway for sharing information across your region and beyond.
TIHA may also help share data your organization contributes to the HIE with approved partners on your behalf, helping reduce the time, resources, and technical effort required to maintain separate data-sharing connections.
Who has access to patient information?
Only authorized users at participating Tiger Institute Health Alliance member organizations may access information through the HIE. Users must follow all applicable laws, regulations, member agreements, organizational policies, and privacy requirements when accessing patient information.
Access is intended to support appropriate health care purposes such as treatment, care coordination, quality improvement, and other approved use cases.
How is patient information protected?
Tiger Institute Health Alliance and its member organizations are expected to comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including HIPAA.
Patient information is protected through privacy and security controls such as authorized user access, secure technology, user agreements, organizational policies, and routine auditing. These safeguards help ensure that information is accessed appropriately and used for approved purposes.
Will sensitive patient information be available?
Some patient information may be sensitive in nature but still important for safe and effective care. Access to sensitive information is managed according to applicable laws, regulations, policies, and authorization requirements.
When proper authorizations are required, sensitive information is only made available in accordance with those requirements.
Can information from medical equipment and devices be shared?
Tiger Institute Health Alliance receives patient health information from member EHR systems. If information from medical equipment or devices is already being captured in your EHR and is approved for contribution, it may be available to share through the HIE.
The specific information shared is determined by each member organization and applicable data-sharing requirements.
How do I talk to patients about sharing their information?
Health care providers have always shared patient information to support care, historically by hand delivery, fax, mail, or telephone. Health information exchange makes that sharing more secure, efficient, and timely by allowing authorized systems and providers to exchange information electronically.
Patients are typically notified of participation in health information exchange through the organization’s Notice of Privacy Practices or other approved communication. If patients do not wish to share their information, they may opt out by completing the appropriate opt-out form, when applicable.
How can membership help with regulatory requirements?
Tiger Institute Health Alliance may help members support interoperability and information-sharing requirements, including programs and expectations related to Promoting Interoperability, the 21st Century Cures Act, CMS Conditions of Participation, and other applicable regulatory initiatives.
Because regulatory requirements vary by organization and use case, members should work with their compliance, legal, and operational teams to determine how HIE participation supports their specific obligations.
How does member feedback influence Tiger Institute Health Alliance?
Tiger Institute Health Alliance is governed by the Tiger Institute for Health Innovation Board of Governors. In addition, members participate through user groups, member meetings, and ongoing engagement opportunities.
Member feedback plays an important advisory role in identifying priorities, shaping future innovations, and ensuring TIHA continues to meet the needs of participating organizations and the communities they serve.
