As the director of Clinical Applications at the Tiger Institute for Health Innovation, Don Guthrie focuses on improving the provider and caregiver experience through information technology (IT). He ensures that the University of Missouri (MU) Health Care is recognized as a leader in building IT-enabled workflows of the future that drive efficiencies leading to improved health outcomes and provider satisfaction.
Serving as the liaison between the MU Health Care and several Cerner organizations, Don provides expert domain knowledge, including workflow, design and process, to drive a positive end user experience and the utilization of all Cerner applications.
Don joined Cerner in 1990 in a sales support role. He has held roles with the company such as support analyst, blood bank team lead and operations manager within the SolutionWorks organization.
During his time at Cerner, Don has lead the health system’s involvement in the Solution Testing Partner program. In addition, he assisted in MU’s transition from HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model Stage 3 to 7 within two years. These outcomes have deemed MU as one of the “Most Wired” designations every year since 2011.
Don has a Bachelor of Science in medical technology and did his internship at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. He is a registered Medical Technologist certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
