MUHC appoints Selva full time CMIO

COLUMBIA, Mo. –Thomas J. Selva, M.D., FAAP, has been appointed chief medical information officer of the University of Missouri Health System and medical director of the Tiger Institute, effective Dec. 1.

Selva, a professor of clinical child health in the MU School of Medicine, also serves as chief of the Division of General Pediatrics, associate chair for clinical quality in the Department of Child Health and medical director of ambulatory care for University of Missouri Health Care. He is board-certified in pediatrics.

As chief medical information officer for the University of Missouri Health System, Selva will be responsible for shaping the ongoing development of MU Health Care’s overall clinical information technology strategy, capabilities and their integration into clinic practice. As medical director of the Tiger Institute for Health Innovation, Selva will provide clinical leadership, direction, and vision across the Tiger Institute initiatives.

A member of the board of directors of the Missouri chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Selva received his M.D. degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed a residency in pediatrics at the MU School of Medicine.

Selva is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including Best Doctors in America 2011-2012, 2009-2010, 2007-2008, 2005-2006, 2003-2004 and 2001-2002; the William A. Altemeier III Excellence in Teaching Award, 2004; and the Medical Student Affairs Council Distinguished Teaching Award, 1992 and 1993.
